OHHHH EMMMM GEEEE!!!!
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we have all been brainstorming ideas for our children’s teachers, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, neighbors, friends, etc. And I know you all love a really thoughtful gift for those special people in your lives! I also know this one won’t disappoint, ESPECIALLY when you tell the recipient that you made them yourself! They’ll be majorly impressed!
Here’s what you’ll need:
A heart silicone mold — I snagged one at walmart for (3.99. SCORE!), but Joann Fabrics also sells Wilton brand ones.
Chocolate of your choice — i used dark and white chocolate
seasonal sprinkles or red/pink/white
wilton colored candy melts
strawberries (cut into halves and make sure they fit into the molds.)
and if you’re really feeling Martha Stewart-ish, grab some marshmallows, nuts, cherries, etc!
First things first:
If you’ve made chocolate covered strawberries in the past, you know how to melt the chocolate gradually to prevent burning it. Heat for 30 seconds or so, then stir, repeating until the chocolate is completely melted.
Next fill each mold with just enough chocolate to cover the bottom.
Then place you filler in. If you’re doing strawberries, make sure the flat side is facing up. If you’re doing nuts or marshmallows, less is more. I try to stick with 3 marshmallows or 3 almonds, so the chocolate doesn’t overflow when you top it off.
After all of your fillers are in place. we add more chocolate to cover any sight of fillers. make sure you don’t go over brim of mold. These need to stay flat so they sit evenly. Once you’ve added the chocolate, gently move the tray back and forth so that the chocolate evens out and air bubbles are eliminated.
Stick the tray in the fridge for about 15 minutes and they are good to go!
When you pull them out, I usually yank on the sides of the tray and stretch it to get the chocolates loose. Then I do the same with the top and bottom of tray. Then you can turn them over and just pop them right out!
Melt your colored candy melts (you don’t need much!) and place a spoonful or 2 into the corner of a ziploc bag and snip the tiniest corner off. Then go to drizzle town!!! Place sprinkles on top of wet drizzles to be sure they stick. Give them a few minutes to harden, and Voila!
Like all chocolate covered strawberries, keep these refrigerated!
